Culturally Responsive Teaching and Culturally Responsive Service

Working Definition:

Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) and Culturally Responsive Service (CRS)
is the integration, transformation and transmission of knowledge about various cultural groups we serve. The main purpose of CRT and CRS is to close the
existing knowledge gap, thus reducing and/or eliminating barriers related to
effective cross-cultural communication in a learning/working environment.  This
can be accomplished by accepting and disseminating information designed to empower all learners, faculty, and staff regardless of ability, age, ethnicity, gender, class, sexual orientation or national origin.  The expected outcome of CRT and CRS is to raise cultural awareness and to help us put an end to individual and institutional discrimination.
