When it comes to technology, security and privacy of confidential information is our top priority.

NWTC has an established Computer Security Incident Response Team, responsible for assisting with the management of IIT security by providing analysis and risk assessment. This includes providing consistent, regular review of security performance, communication of its findings and observations, analysis of security issues, and assistance with security improvement projects.

Security Tips:

1. Secure your password: Never share your passwords! Create strong passwords by following some of these common guidelines:
• incorporate mixed case, numbers and symbols
• make your password 12 characters or longer
• refrain from using birthdates, relative and pet names, repetitive/sequential patterns, and biographical information
2. Protect your computer: Keep your anti-virus software up-to-date
3. Be careful what you click on: Do not open email attachments that you are not expecting and beware of what you download from the web
4. Beware of Phishing scams: Never give personal information, including passwords, via email
5. Report all suspicious events to the help desk immediately: Emails, renamed or deleted files, abnormal programs running on your computer, or anything else you feel is out of the ordinary
