ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY
TYPE: Student Services
POLICY TITLE: Student Employment
The Student Employment department
at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) will comply
with all applicable employment related regulations including
but not limited to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)/Affirmative
Action (AA) policy, privacy policy, and public records protection
policy when fulfilling the duties of that department.
The Student Employment department will establish
procedures for providing assistance to students and/or graduates
of the college who are seeking part-time, full-time, summer
or temporary employment opportunities.
Procedures as recommended for the State System colleges for
providing students with employment services:
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and
the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)/Affirmative Action
(AA) policy restrict the distribution of educational record
information.
To ensure a fair and equitable recommendation process, any
college employee who is approached or contacted by an employer
requesting recommendations for students/graduates, or student
record information concerning students/graduates, should
refer the employer to the Student Employment office, Room SC135, extension 5528, for posting of
the position on the college's automated job matching system
(TechConnect).
Rationale:
Any staff who regularly act as reference for students/graduates
for employment is considered an employment agent under the
law and is subject to all federal and state laws governing
referral employment services. Signed consent from the student/graduate
must be obtained before a staff member may release evaluative
student information pertaining to the quality/course grade/attendance
record or skill level of said student.
If a student registers with the Student Employment
office they have completed a written release, which that office
maintains on file. A position posted on the college's
automated job matching system (TechConnect) complies with
all employment laws and ensures students/graduates have equal
opportunity to apply for all posted positions. This process
provides for accurate collection of "job order” totals, by college program area, through the Student Employment office for
local and state reporting purposes (i.e. graduate follow-up
and program evaluation/assessment).
