Petitioning to Graduate

A Petition to Graduate form is required to be completed by a program student in his or her last term of program classes. NWTC will check each petitioning student’s transcript against the designated program/plan's curriculum and any other program requirements to verify potential completion at the end of the term listed by the student on the petition. (Please note: Before filing a petition, if you have any questions or concerns on satisfying graduation requirements, contact your campus counseling center for help.)

Graduation Requirements

  1. A student must have completed an application and received an acceptance letter for the program/plan in which he or she wishes to graduate.
  2. A student must have completed all the requirements of the program/plan curriculum. Passing grades must be obtained in all its required classes.
  3. A student must have completed all program/plan classes with a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better. ("C" average)
  4. A student must fulfill all financial obligations to Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
  5. A Petition to Graduate form must be filed.(See below for dates )

Publicity and Graduation Ceremonies

Immediately following the designated petitioning period, newspaper publicity information will be provided to our Public Relation Specialists and to the Student Activities Office for the Graduation Commencement booklet. If you do not petition on time, your name may not appear in the newspaper or commencement booklet. For publicity and commencement purposes, honors will be calculated based on the student's course work in the designated program/plan up to, but not including, the final term. Honors notations are based on the following grade point average:

4.00 Highest Honors       3.75 - 3.99 High Honors       3.20 - 3.74 Honors

At the end of the final term, a program/plan GPA will be recalculated and, if applicable, honors notations will be posted along with graduation information to a successful graduate's official NWTC transcript.

NWTC holds a May and December ceremony. August graduates are welcome to participate in either ceremony upon request.

Petitions are accepted January 15 thru February 15 for May graduation, June 1 thru June 30 for August graduation, and September 1 thru September 30 for December graduation.
