1. Do I need to see a Counselor to drop a class or withdraw from school?

Yes. Make an appointment or stop in the Center. We'll assist you with the paperwork and discuss your options. Dropping a class may affect your program status and/or your financial aid.

2. What is a student referral form?

When an instructor determines that a student is at risk for successful completion of a class, they can send a student referral form to the Counseling Center. Counselors contact the student and discuss options for successfully completing the class.

3. Will I be assigned a counselor?

No. You can see any counselor.

4. How do I get credits transferred from another college or another program at NWTC?

Any credit for prior learning (transfer credit, substitution of credit, or work experience credit) requires an application and a fee. See a counselor for the forms and information on the process. You must be enrolled in a program to receive credit. However, to avoid duplication of your efforts it is recommended that you talk with a counselor about your options before you register for classes.

5. Will my visit to the counseling center be confidential?

Absolutely. There is a common waiting area, but complete privacy is afforded you in the counseling offices. Information you share with counselors is completely confidential.

6. Can a counselor assist me in deciding on what program or career is best for me?

Yes. The Counseling Center is located near the Career Center. Using career interest inventories and software programs, we can provide detailed information on various careers to match your skills.

7. Can a counselor assist me if I do not have a high school diploma?

All counselors work with individuals who need help with career or academic planning.
