Hotel and Restaurant Management Internship Facts

  • The internship can be completed at any hospitality related business that relates to a student's career goals and is approved by the internship instructor as being sufficiently related to the hospitality industry.

  • The internship must be paid.

  • It is the student's responsibility to find employment for the internship. The student should check with the instructor to ensure the employment would be considered a hospitality business.

  • The internship is a 3 credit course and consists of two parts:

    • Job Seeking Skills (1 credit)

    • Internship employment (144 hours, 2 credits)

  • When a student signs up for the internship the dates of the Job Seeking Skills portion will be given. For the online course, the student completes the Job Seeking Skills portion of the course online.

  • Grading for the internship is based on the reports completed while employed and the completion of the Job Seeking Skills portion.

  • The Student Manual and Employer Manual have information on the internship assignments. These can be requested from the internship instructor. The Employer Manual is intended as a guide for the employer so they know what the student will be completing.

  • The Job Seeking Skills booklet is available from NWTC and online.

  • It is recommended that students complete the internship during the summer (for students beginning the program prior to Fall 2004) or during the last semester of the program (for students beginning the program Fall 2004 and after). However, the student sign up for and complete the internship at any time as long as they are accepted into the program.
