CLASS DESCRIPTION
This class covers motor starters, line diagrams, three-phase and single-phase systems, motor branch circuits, overcurrent and overload protection, and National Electrical Code.

CLASS OUTCOMES: The student will ........

  • Explain the purpose of motor starters and properly install as per NEC requirements.
  • Select, install and protect a control transformer
  • Explain the operation of and install pilot devices.
  • Explain the operation of and install sensing devices.
  • Explain the proper methods and install a motor branch circuit as per NEC requirements.
  • Determine the size of branch circuit conductors, feeder conductors, overcurrent devices, overloads and conduit size for motor circuits.
  • Convert basic relay logic to programmable control logic and install according to diagram.
  • Understand, recognize and select overcurrent protection for branch circuits.
