International and Non-immigrant Applications

International students need to meet the same standards for acceptance as other program students. Applications received from international or nonimmigrant applicants are processed as other applications with the following exceptions:

Working hard at NWTC!

1. An acknowledgement letter is sent requesting the following:

  • All individuals with a foreign (to United States) transcript (high school, baccalaureate, or higher) must complete a skills assessment (testing) in English as part of the admissions process. Acceptable admissions tests include Accuplacer, TABE, ACT, SAT, ASSET and Compass.   Skills assessments taken in the U.S. within the last three years will be considered.
  • Students applying to an NWTC program with foreign transcripts must submit translated high school and/or college transcripts, as required by an associate degree or technical diploma, to document past course completion or for transfer of credit consideration. Documents in languages other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.   Examples of agencies that offer credential evaluation include Education Credential Evaluators at http://www.ece.org, World Educational Services at www.wes.org, or International Education Research Foundation at http://www.ierf.org.
  • For transfer of credit consideration, a foreign transcript needs further evaluation done by an educational credentialing agency to assign U.S. equivalent credits and grades for each postsecondary course.  Examples of agencies that offer credential evaluation include Education Credential Evaluators at http://www.ece.org, World Educational Services at www.wes.org, or International Education Research Foundation at http://www.ierf.org.
  • TOEFL test results (minimum TOEFL score of 480 on paper-based test, 157 on computer-based test, 55 on Internet-based test)

2. Once a student has met the program standard for acceptance and before an I-20 SEVIS form (http://www.ice.gov/sevis) can be completed, the International Student Advisor will need:

  • An affidavit of financial support from a bank official indicating $26,900 US to cover tuition, room and board, books and supplies.

The Registrar should be contacted for acceptance information. Once accepted, this application is referred to the Admissions staff responsible for the program of choice for processing. All usual criteria for program of choice must also be met.

Important!

  • International or F1 students pay out of state tuition.
  • International students are required to maintain full-time status. A minimum of 12 credits per semester is required.
  • There is no financial aid available to international students.
  • English Language Learning is not considered a full-time program.
