BUSINESS LAW (Business and the Law)

This introductory law class explores contracts and the legal system, applying the concepts of law to business, finance, and commercial trade. A textbook and study guide complement the 30 half-hour video lessons.  (VHS)

ECONOMICS (Economics U$A)

3 Credits Class Number: 50417

This class is designed to use economic events in America, present and past, to help teach the principles of economics. A textbook complements the 28 half-hour video lessons.  (VHS & DVD)

ELEMENTARY ALGEBRA WITH APPLICATIONS

3 Credits Class Number: 50414
Traditional algebra topics with applications. Learners develop algebraic problem solving techniques needed for technical problem solving and for more advanced algebraic studies. Topics include linear equations, exponents, polynomials, rational expressions, and roots and radicals. Successful completion of this course prepares learners to succeed in technical mathematics courses. (Prerequisites: Recommended math placement score of: Accuplacer (Arithmetic) = 70 OR TABE Level A math score = 10.9. Note: Recommended that the student has a working knowledge of arithmetic involving fractions and decimals.) (No Videos required)

ENGLISH COMPOSITION 1

3 Credits Class Number: 50407

This course provides students the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, process, and understanding of grammar, mechanics, writing process, essay parts, paragraph types, audience, purpose, paragraph development, topic sentences, thesis statements, critical reading and writing, MAL/APA documentation, research techniques, timed writing, and revision skills. A textbook is required and there will be optional reference videos available. (No Videos required)

ENGLISH COMPOSITION 2

3 Credits Class Number: 50408

Advanced course: learners develop research, argument, critical thinking skills; read/analyze persuasive media; form critical perspectives (supported by documented primary/secondary research) apply logic, audience analysis, and the writing process. (Prerequisites: 10-801-136, English Composition 1; 10-801-195 Written Communication) (No Videos required)

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

3 Credits Class Number: 50403

Entrepreneurship, success and failure, getting started: sources of capital, location, layout, and legal forms of organization, managing and operating, planning and organizing, directing and monitoring performance, marketing strategy, and administration. A textbook and study guide complement the 26 half-hour video lessons. (VHS)

INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS (It's Strictly Business)

This class helps students understand the dynamics of business in four broad categories: business environment, management, finance, and marketing. A textbook complements the 26 half-hour video lessons. (VHS)

INTRODUCTION TO COLLEGE MATH

3 Credits Class Number: 50413
An introductory level course designed to review and develop fundamental concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and statistics. Emphasis will be placed on computational skills and applications of rational numbers; problem solving skills with ratios, proportions, and percent; basic principles and application of algebra, geometry, graphing, and statistics; measurement skills in U.S. Customary and Metric Systems; and the use of calculators as a tool. (No Videos required)

INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY (Discovering Psychology)

This introductory class centers around self-awareness as related to psychological principles and their applications. A textbook complements the 26 half-hour video lessons. (VHS & DVD)

INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY
(Exploring Society)

This course is a study of the nature and variety of groups; inequality, race and ethnicity, family, population, social integration and change; collective behavior; politics, economics, religion, education and the effects of technology. A textbook and study guide complement the 22 video lessons. (VHS & DVD)

MATH WITH BUSINESS APPS

3 Credits Class Number: 50415
Real numbers; basic operations; proportions/one variable; percents; simple/compound interest; annuity; apply math concepts to purchasing/buying process, selling process; and basic statistics with business/consumer applications. (Prerequisite: Recommended math placement test score of: TABE Level A math score = 9.5). (No videos required)

MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY

3 Credits Class Number: 50405

Students develop the knowledge, skills, process and understanding of medical terminology, including basic word elements, spelling, and pronunciation. A textbook complements the 26 half-hour video lessons. (VHS & DVD)

NUTRITION PATHWAYS

3 Credits Class Number: 50406

This introductory nutrition class separates nutrition fact from fiction and stresses practical applications, showing how nutrition influences people's daily lives. A textbook and study guide complement the 26 half-hour video lessons. (VHS)

ORAL/INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION

3 Credits Class Number: 50410

This class provides students the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, process, and understanding of the communication process, perception, self-concept, language, nonverbal messages, listening, critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, intercultural communication, group interaction, conflict management, and public communication. A textbook complements the 17 video lessons.

This class parallels the Oral Communication Class offered on NWTC's campuses. The objectives are the same and the assignments and tests are similar. (VHS & DVD)

PERSONAL FINANCE AND MONEY MANAGEMENT

3 Credits Class Number: 50399

Common financial problems, such as budgeting, responsible home ownership, income taxes and investments, are explored in this video Class. A textbook complements the 26 half-hour video lessons.(VHS)

MARKETING PRINCIPLES

3 Credits Class Number: 50402

In this class, students identify and apply the basic concepts of marketing relative to product, price, promotion, and place. A textbook and study guide complement the 16 video lessons. (VHS)

RACE ETHNIC & DIVERSITY

3 Credits Class Number: 50416

Basic American values of justice and equality by teaching vocabulary, history of immigration/conquest, transcultural communication, legal liability, multicultural majority/minority relations, ageism, sexism, gender, sexual orientation, the disabled/ADA. (VHS & DVD)

SELLING PRINCIPLES

3 Credits Class Number: 50401

Insight and information needed to compete in the age of long-term, consultative type of selling. A textbook and study guide complement the 26 half-hour video lessons. (VHS)

 SPEECH

3 Credits Class Number: 50412

This class provides learners the opportunity to achieve a personal and professional level of confidence in public speaking. Students will be able to develop and acquire the knowledge, skills, and positive attitude needed to understand and apply to "real life" the basic principles of speech communication. Learners will plan, prepare, practice, and deliver a variety of speeches appropriate for classroom, career, or community presentations. A Textbook complements the 24 half-hour video lessons.

This class parallels the Speech Class offered on NWTC's campuses. The objectives are the same and the assignments and tests are similar. (VHS & DVD)

SUPERVISION (Taking the Lead)

3 Credits Class Number: 50404

Concepts and theories of management are explored, with a focus on the 5 managerial functions: planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling. A textbook complements the 26 half-hour video lessons. (VHS)

TECHNICAL REPORTING

 3 Credits Class Number: 50411

Learners will prepare technical documents using the principles of technical writing and will deliver a technical oral presentation. This class approaches technical writing from a "work" perspective. Whatever your professional or technical field, you will find content that applies to the writing you must do on-the-job. A textbook and study guide complement the 26 video lessons.

This class parallels the Technical Reporting Class offered on NWTC's campuses. The competencies are the same and the assignments and tests are similar.   (VHS & DVD)                        

WRITTEN COMMUNICATION (Research for Writers)

 3 Credits Class Number: 50409

This course provides learners the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, process, and understanding of the principles of business and technical writing, ethics and cultural considerations, the writing process, document design techniques, memorandums, business letters, job seeking skills, instructions, sentence definition, summary, and short reports. A textbook and a study guide complement the 24 half-hour video lessons. (VHS & DVD)
