Q. What is a certificate?
A. Certificates are designed to help busy students
learn skills in short blocks of time. Certificates range
from as few as six to as many as eighteen credits. The
courses making up a certificate are designed by industry
representatives to help students enter a new field (or
change fields) quickly and confidently. Certificates are
offered in a number of flexible learning options, including
weekend and evening class times, Internet, distance learning,
accelerated formats and more.
Q.
What certificate options are available?
A. Presently there are over 60 credit and non-credit Certificate
Options. View information
on each one or download a copy of the Certificate
Options booklet.
Q. Do the credits earned
with a certificate apply to Associate Degree and Technical
Diploma programs?
A. Yes. At a later time if you decide to enroll in an Associate
Degree or Technical Diploma program, applicable credits you
earned with the certificate will transfer.
Q. Do I have to
take other courses in addition to those listed for the certificate?
A. No. You only have to take the courses listed. In some,
work experience or previous course work is required. These
pre-requisites are listed in the Certificate Options booklet.
Q. Can
I substitute or modify the courses on the list?
A. In certain cases, courses that contain the same competencies
could be substituted. This would be done on a case by case
basis.
Q.
What if I would like a certificate that is not on the list?
Can I create my own certificate?
A.At this time, creating a new certificate is not possible.
If you see a need for a particular certificate, please talk
to a Dean or Associate Dean.
Q. What
is the difference between credit and non-credit certificates?
A. The advantage of the credit certificates is that these
courses would transfer to a NWTC Diploma Program or an Associate
Degree.
Q. Is there a time
limit to complete the courses in a certificate?
A.NWTC does not impose a time limit on the particular courses
of a certificate. Students may wish to plan their schedules
so as not to spread the courses out over too long a time
to be practical.
Q. How can
I enroll for a Certificate Option?
A. You can enroll in a Certificate Option by printing, filling out and
mailing the Certificate Enrollment Form.
