| Q. What
is Accelerated Learning?
A. Accelerated classes use special instructional techniques
chosen for their ability to help students learn and retain
large amounts of information. Students do much of their
learning on their own, often on the job, so that required
classroom time is shortened. |
| Q. Will
I learn the same things in an accelerated class and a traditional
class?
A. The competencies learned in accelerated classes are exactly
the same as those learned in traditional classes. |
| Q. What
type of student is best suited for accelerated classes?
A. Accelerated classes require highly motivated students.
Students in accelerated classes should be in the workforce
so they will have work and life experience to bring to the
class. |
| Q.
Are assignments for accelerated classes different?
A. Accelerated classes will require reading and an assignment
to be completed before the first class. You will need to
purchase books at the NWTC bookstore. Assignment packets
will be mailed to you prior to the first class. |
| Q.
What are some examples of accelerated instruction?
A. In a traditional class, students might learn how to prepare
a nutritious menu for young children by listening to a lecture
on the subject, and then taking a quiz about it. In an accelerated
class, students might divide into planning groups, survey
information provided, and actually write appropriate menus.
Research tells us that the second method will produce students
who are much more likely to retain the new information and
skills. |
| Q.
How do I register for an accelerated class?
A. Registering for an accelerated class is the same as
registering for any other class - Phone-In, Online,
walk-in, and mail-in. |
