Types of Web Pages
The Web Site is intended to provide easy access to information
about NWTC and the work of the college. Employees of NWTC
should report any inaccurate or unseemly information to the
NWTC web developer.
The web site will contain the following types of official pages:
- CAMPUS PAGES - will be created and maintained by the NWTC
web developer in conjunction with the web team. The NWTC web
developer and the web team will determine this content. Campus
pages will include the NWTC home page and the first level
of links.
- DEPARTMENTS/DIVISIONS PAGES - These official pages will be
endorsed by the college as authoritative resources. It is
critical that these pages be ACCURATE and TIMELY. These pages
will be designed by the departments with the help of the NWTC
web developer. While the NWTC web developer will maintain these
pages, it is the responsibility of the division to check them
for accuracy and timeliness.
- ACADEMIC PAGES - Each academic department may have home pages
that promote admission, degree options, communications with
the department and other opportunities found within the department.
These pages will be constructed with the help of the NWTC
web developer, but it will be the responsibility of the department
to keep the information accurate and timely. These are considered
official pages.
STANDARDS For Official Pages
The design of the home page navigation has been planned so
that a web site visitor can easily find the information that
he is looking for. With this in mind, NWTC standards require:
- All first and second level pages contain the same top
links. This template will include the NWTC logo to inform
the visitor that they are at a NWTC site.
- Consistent navigational buttons/list.
- The page title in the format "NWTC - description of page".
- The bottom links will be on every page.
- The last updated date MUST appear in the bottom left
hand corner.
- Each page should contain additional contacts for the
department including phone numbers and E-MAIL addresses.
(Other links relevant to the information on the page are
encouraged.)
Second level official pages should contain the same navigational
aids, plus addition navigation for that area.
Unofficial pages (instructors, committees, clubs, etc.)
The NWTC Web Site can be used for unofficial pages in which
the content is the responsibility of the individual or group
that publishes the particular page(s). These pages are intended
to support the work efforts of individual faculty, staff,
students and various organizations that are associated with
NWTC. Each individual who develops such a page is responsible
for the accuracy of information and the quality of the page.
Examples of these types of pages are an instructor site, a
student organization site, a class page, or a committee site.
Unofficial pages are those developed by individual faculty,
staff or students within the NWTC community to allow individuals/groups
to share information about their role and opportunities within
the academic environment. These pages are "unofficial"
because the College does not assume publishing authority or
authorship for the content found within these pages. These
pages are the responsibility of the individual. In each instance,
the individual/group is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness
of information. The NWTC web developer will add the following
items to individual pages if they are not there:
- The current NWTC logo and name at the top of all unofficial
pages.
- The last date the page was updated, the creator's name,
and a link to the NWTC home page at the bottom.
The page should provide both an e-mail address and a phone
number contact for the information on that page. Links on
a page should be relevant to the page information or to NWTC.
