'Driving a fuel-efficient motorcycle can become an economical and enjoyable experience’ says NWTC instructor.
Motorcycle riders will be enjoying more than the open road this summer – they’ll be taking advantage of a fuel-conscious method of transportation, according to Randy Smith from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
“As gasoline prices are approaching $4.00 a gallon, the option of driving a fuel-efficient motorcycle certainly can become an economical and an enjoyable experience,” said Smith, an NWTC associate dean who is also a motorcycle rider course instructor at the college. Smith added that NWTC’s basic motorcycle rider course will help both new and experienced riders become “safe and responsible motorcyclists.”
The 16-hour course, Motorcycle Rider (Catalog # 42-816-402), will be offered throughout the summer months, starting June 2, on the NWTC Green Bay campus. Classes will be offered on weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Students will learn to minimize risk and handle special riding situations. They will also learn to develop the physical skills of basic control; move on to more advanced skills like stopping quickly, cornering, and swerving; and develop a strategy to manage their risk as riders.
Six hours of classroom discussion and ten hours of riding in a safe, off-street environment are included in the course. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a MV3575 Motorcycle Test Skills Waiver Authorization and will not have to take the skills/road test with the Wisconsin DOT. The course is taught by Motorcycle Safety Foundation and Wisconsin DOT certified instructors, such as Smith.
