Your pay will be processed on a bi-weekly basis.

Certification Requirements

There are several common elements required for every instructor seeking initial certification through NWTC. First, the individual must be employed by the College. Second, those individuals must be in a position or category that requires certification. Finally, there are minimum educational and occupational requirements that must be met at the time of employment.

Academic Instructors

A baccalaureate degree with at least 20 credits in the subject area(s) and 12 months occupational experience outside of education.

Occupational Instructors

A baccalaureate degree or equivalent* and 24 months (4,000 hours) of occupational experience directly related to the area of instruction.

* Equivalent means occupational experience directly applicable to the area of instruction and formal, related education, together equaling 14,000 hours.

Instructors also delivering class that are not part of or associated with state designated programs are subject to the Requirements for Certification (Code) Chapter TCS 3 Wisconsin Administrative Rule, revised 1993.

Instructors delivering class that are designated as community services class, and therefore do not fit in either of the previous categories, are exempted from these requirements. However, the College will continue to seek out individuals who are qualified to deliver these types of class as follows:

A. Recognized experts in the subject, or
B. Possess license, certificate, or other similar recognition from a sponsoring body.

Certification Renewal

For Instructors of State Designated Program class.

Instructor certification is an on-going process. As an instructor, your initial certification is good for a three-year period of time. During this time and during each two-year renewal period thereafter, you must continue to keep your qualifications up-to-date in order to remain certified. Recertification requirements must be met before the expiration date of your certification.

There are five different classifications of instructor certification. Depending upon your classification of certification, you will need to complete specific recertification activities prior to the expiration date of your current certification.

The essential renewal elements are identified under each of the classifications. Additional information regarding specific certification renewal activities is available from the NWTC Certification Office. For additional information or a current listing of certification credit class and District in-service activities contact: NWTC Certification Office, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College District, 2740 West Mason Street, Green Bay, Wisconsin 54307-9042, Telephone: (920) 498-5405 or view info at: http://vrc.nwtc.edu/faculty_development.

Communicating Class Changes

If for any reason you have a temporary class change, it is essential that you notify the appropriate authority as far in advance of the change as possible. You must notify the appropriate authority even when all of your students have been notified of the change. Example: date change, time, meeting place, cancellation, field trip, location.

ANY MAJOR CLASS CHANGES DEALING WITH ROOM CHANGE, DAY, TIME, BEGINNING OR ENDING DATES, MUST BE APPROVED BY THE DIVISION, EVENING SUPERVISOR / RECEPTIONIST, OR CENTER COORDINATOR.

Emergency in the Classroom - GREEN BAY

1. In the event of accidents, injuries or medical emergencies, the instructor should take immediate steps to provide for emergency first aid or assistance. There are numerous First Aid Kits mounted around the campus in prominent locations. Familiarize yourself with the kit locations in the area(s) that you instruct.

  • A. If a phone is available, dial 5454 to notify the switchboard operator. The operator will call the proper emergency help i.e. Police/Fire/Rescue or Campus Security. Normal hours for the switchboard are Monday - Thursday 7:30 am to 7 pm and Fridays 7:30 am to 5 pm. After the switchboard is closed , the 5454 calls are automatically forwarded to the campus security officer.
  • B. There is an evening/weekend campus supervisor on duty Monday - Thursday 4:30 pm - 9 pm, Fridays 4:30 pm - 8 pm and Saturdays from 8 am - 11 am. In the event of an emergency, the CBI reception desk can be contacted by calling 6373. The receptionist will then notify the campus supervisor to respond to your location.
  • C. NWTC has 10 trained First Responders that are on call during normal daytime hours. The First Responders are notified by the switchboard operator.
  • D. NWTC has Campus Security available during all hours the school is open. Security can be reached directly by calling 5699.

2. Report the incident to NWTC staff and arrange to complete a Security Incident Report form. It is imperative that this is completed within 24 hours. The report is available from the evening receptionist or Campus supervisor.

Equal Opportunity Employer/Affirmative Action

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is committed to equal opportunity for all and does not discriminate in admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its programs and activities on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, age, or handicap.

If you would like further information on NWTC's affirmative action policy, please contact the Affirmative Action Officer or Human Resources.

Inclement Weather

If NWTC is in operation as usual, it is up to the discretion of the student to decide to attend or not to attend. Instructors report that often the long distance student arrives and the local student stays home.

The expectation is that classes are in session unless the District formally closes the campus.

In special circumstances, an instructor may initiate a class cancellation. In order to provide students with accurate information, these procedures should be followed:

  1. Before 4:00 p.m. - call your appropriate divisional office (Your divisional office will inform the CBI Office)
  2. After 4:00 p.m. - call 498-6373 (Your divisional office will be informed by the CBI Office the next day)

After 4:00 p.m., the CBI Office will assist the instructor with notification of students. We may ask that instructors and/or other divisional areas help us so that all students are notified of their class cancellation. The instructor should retain a copy of the class roster.

During extremely severe weather, the District may decide to close the campus. Announcements are made on local TV and Radio stations. Up-to-date information is available by calling the NWTC Weather Number, 498-6380. We ask that you inform students of these procedures.

Smoke Free Policy

Campus is a smoke free Campus. Smoking is prohibited in all buildings. Smoking receptacles are provided at all entrances. Smoking is allowed in several designated parking lots. .
